Taxation has always been a topic that makes people feel uneasy. It’s rare to find someone talking about taxes with excitement. For most people, the word “tax” is automatically recognized as the long forms, complicated requirements, and endless procedures. Paying taxes, then, often feels less like contributing to the country’s growth and more like surviving a maze of paperwork.

Only a few taxpayers truly understand the formal and material aspects of taxation. Most of them begin to understand it only when they have to deal with tax administration, exactly when they meet the tax officers. Some think the taxpayer service requirements are reasonable and decide to return soon once everything is prepared, yet others believe those requirements just serve as unnecessary burdens or delays that make them spend more time just to claim their rights.

The Directorate General of Taxes (DGT) has been steadily transforming its services, moving from manual processes toward a more modern, digitalized system. This transformation is not only about keeping up with technology—but also making the tax administration simpler, more transparent, and more trustworthy.

One of the biggest steps in this journey is the development of Coretax. This term means as a core system that integrates all major tax administration into a unified–a single platform. Instead of working with separate databases and manual entries, everything is now connected. Taxpayers no longer need to repeat the same information over and over, and officers can process the data faster and more accurately.

Beyond efficiency, Coretax also brings a new level of transparency. Taxpayers can track their data and compliance status through a system that records every transaction in real time. This makes it easier for both sides i.e., taxpayers and tax officers, to ensure fairness and accountability. When information is clear and accessible, trust will naturally follow.

Building a Compliance Culture with Coretax

With Coretax, taxpayers no longer require to come to tax office just to handle administrative matters. Most services can now be completed online, anytime and anywhere, through a single digital platform. Besides, Coretax is complemented with Coretaxpedia providing manual book and frequently asked questions regarding Coretax. Even if taxpayers need assistance, they can come to the nearest tax office regardless of their registered location since Coretax has adopted a borderless service concept.

This transformation reflects the broader spirit of digitalization, where the government continues to bring public services closer to the people through technology. Of course, every major change comes with its challenges. Adapting to a new system may feel difficult at first, but over time, taxpayers will experience how Coretax makes everything simpler, faster, and more convenient.

Preparing for the Surge of Coretax Access in 2026

As Coretax was launched in January 2025 and officially used for the 2025 tax year, taxpayers have been encouraged to activate their Coretax accounts as early as possible. Ideally, most taxpayers should have completed their activation by now to ensure a smooth transition to the new system.

However, as of September 2025, only about 65 percent of registered taxpayers have activated their accounts. Since March 2026 is expected to be the peak period for Coretax usage, taxpayers are strongly advised not to postpone their activation to next year—when access requests and system traffic will be at their highest point.

Coretax era requires all of us to keep up with technology while strengthening our awareness of privacy and data accuracy. Taxpayers need to ensure that their personal information is up to date. One of the main reasons that makes many taxpayers still cannot log in or activate their accounts is due to incomplete or outdated data—such as unverified identity card number, inactive email addresses, or old mobile phone numbers that are no longer valid.

These details are essential for verification and communication within the system. Therefore, taxpayers are encouraged to check and update their personal data immediately so they can experience the full benefits of Coretax.

Eventually, the success of Coretax depends not only on the system itself but also on the readiness of its users. As Indonesia moves toward a fully digital tax administration, both taxpayers and tax officers share the same responsibility—to adapt, to learn, and to uphold integrity in every transaction.

This may take big efforts to start, but we’ll reap it–a better tax culture. By using Coretax today, we are not just simplifying tax procedures, we are taking part in building a compliance culture rooted in trust, transparency, and a better future for all.
